Friends Fund £1199.90 to Children’s Community Team for much needed items to support their work.

Victoria Bamford, Children’s Continence Associate Practitioner Acute/community

Let us know:

We are extremely grateful to the ‘Friends of St Mary’s Hospital’ for their generous donation which has enabled us to purchase 10 vibrating watches and 7 bedwetting alarms with mats. This much needed equipment will be loaned out to our children struggling with nocturnal enuresis/constipation in our monthly clinics.

Our new assessments have highlighted Children do not drink enough during the day. This impacts on their Night-time Enuresis as well as day. We feel having the watches to set reminders throughout the day will be an incentive to drink more and prevent day and night enuresis, as well as having a positive outcome on any constipation, giving the children some empowerment. In the past we have asked parents to purchase these but in the current climate with the cost of living this is not always possible.

In addition, those children who need extra support at night will receive an enuresis bed wetting alarm. We aim to loan these on a temporary basis with the idea of reusing them.

Our innovative idea has a positive approach to one of the significant health problems currently facing 1 in 3 children.  Our results have proved we can prevent hospital admissions and free up valuable hospital appointments. These new watches and alarms will continue to have a positive impact on our patients with promoting their self-esteem and well-being.

Many thanks

Victoria
