Friends of St Mary’s Hospital fund £6472.00 for mobile Bladder Scanner to the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service
The addition of the bladder scanner within the Specialist Paramedic Urgent Care team enhances patient care by enabling the team to scan patients who require urinary and catheter care overnight in their own home and, deliver the best care at the right time, in the right place reducing the need for patients to attend or be conveyed to the Emergency Department.
Hannah Harrison DipHE MSc MCPara (Specialist Practice Lead - Urgent Care/Advanced Clinical Practitioner /Specialist Paramedic /Urgent Care) was kind enough to send us a few words after we met up with her and Kathryn Taylor, MSc, RN (Adult & Child - Head of Quality Governance, IW Ambulance Service)
“It was lovely to meet you all and again, thank-you for supporting us with purchasing the bladder scanner.
The bladder scanner is a small portable hand-held device which, within the Specialist Paramedic - Urgent Care team, will allow us to provide the best standard of care to patients presenting with a range of urinary related concerns. We have only had the bladder scanner in service for a week and already it has been used multiple times to allow the team to avoid unnecessary admissions to hospital with patients presenting with acute urinary retention and various catheter related problems, providing these patients the right care, in the right place. We are very grateful to the Friends of St Marys Hospital for purchasing the bladder scanner for us!”
